The Global Phosphorus Institute (GPI) is a global organization with a holistic vision, footprint and participation to ensure responsible use of phosphorus through cutting-edge science and stakeholder dialogue.
Why Phosphorus?
Phosphorus is an essential element for any living organism, and it cannot be substituted by another element. It is the foundation of bones, teeth and muscles for all mammals, including humans. Phosphorus, a critical component of our DNA, is the basis of providing energy to keep our cells alive and active. That is why nutrition through phosphorus consumption, mainly through plant-based foods greatly contributes to improving human health.
Our Vision
GPI envisions a world where food is plentiful for everyone, not just a few. By making a difference through excellence in knowledge management and its distribution combined with pioneering phosphorus-related research , GPI’s innovative solutions will feed our world, provide universal access and care for the environment for future generations to come.
Our Mission
As the global hub for all things phosphorus and the convener of stakeholders and networks, GPI will strengthen collaborations across the world. These partnerships will address human and animal nutritional requirements, promote climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive agricultural programs to improve supply-demand chain efficiencies, resolve equity issues and ensure stewardship of a finite non-substitutable resource by :
